Very successful High School career receiving All-State honors in Baseball three consecutive years. Sophomore season posting a 10-0 pitching record leading the Lions to the Group 4 Central Jersey Championship. Named “Top Sophmore” to watch in the state by several publications. In his Junior season, Mike posted an 11-1 pitching record and lead the NHRHS Lions to the NJ Group 4 finals at Princeton University. A return trip to the state finals fell one game short in Mike’s senior season but he lead the team with a 12-2 pitching record and to their third consecutive Conference, District, and Regional titles. During a stellar High School career Mike compiled a remarkable 33-3 pitching record and a microscopic 0.78 Earned Run Average. His record of 58 consecutive scoreless innings still stands today as a New Jersey State High School record. His Senior season, Mike played a vital roll in the victory over the New York All-Stars at Shea Stadium with his arm and his bat. His performance in the NJ-NY All-star game, combined with his remarkable showing during the State Championship run (3-0, one no-hitter and 2 one-hitters and a .402 BA), earned his spot as one of the top 3 baseball prospects in the State of New Jersey in 1974. Off the field, Mike served as the Senior Class President of a 740 student graduating class and the NHRHS representative to the elite, New Jersey Boys State. After wading through 10 different Baseball Scholarship offers, Mike chose to attend the University of Wyoming in the fall of 1974.
At Wyoming Mike’s baseball career continued to flourish. He was a 4 year starter as a pitcher and centerfielder, receiving All-Conference status two of his four years and being named player of the week several times because of his hot hitting and his ability to “fly” around the spacious centerfield of Cowboy Park to track down opponents well hit balls . His memorable moments included a heart stopping pitchers duel with the eventual National Champion, University of Arizona in the spring Conference Championships of 1976. The Cowboys lost that close contest on an unfortunate fielding error but in many ways that game put Mike on the NCAA “map” as a top young left-handed pitcher. During his Junior and Senior summers (‘77 &’78), Mike played in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League making the Cape League All-Star team in the summer of ’77 helping the Cape League defeat the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League at Fenway Park, Boston , MA. Mike was the team Co-Captain his Jr. & Sr. Year- Graduating in Physical Education 1979.

In 1982, Mike married Debbie Mahoney who was also on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ, serving at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. In 1983, while at Auburn, Mike was promoted to a Regional Directors position giving leadership to the growing AIA ministry among the schools in the Southeast Conference. By the end of his tenure at Auburn Mike was overseeing athletic ministries at 6 of the SEC schools. In 1987 Mike and Debbie moved to Kansas City to begin the Pro Ministry of AIA in Kansas City, specifically to work with the Chiefs and the Royals. Mike has served as Chaplain of the Kansas City Chiefs from 1989 -2001 as well as the Chaplain of the Kansas City Royals from 1989- 2007.
