Born: May 12, 1959 - Paola, KS

High School : Hickman Mills - Kansas City, MO - Graduated 1977

College: U.S. Air Force Academy - 1977-78; University of Missouri - Columbia 1978-1982, 1982-1984

Terry was a three sport athlete in high school, participating in football, basketball, and baseball. In baseball, Terry was the first freshman allowed to play baseball at Hickman Mills prior to the school expanding to include freshmen in its high school building. He pitched some varsity innings that season before becoming a three year fixture in the starting rotation for Coach Dave Karaff (best known as the scout who signed Albert Pujols). After 30 plus years, Terry is still ranked #3 in strikeouts at Hickman Mills. Terry was named to all district teams during his junior and senior seasons, which was the highest formal award recognized in baseball at the time. In football, Terry was an all-state placekicker during his senior season, with a distinction of just one missed attempt inside 40 yards in three seasons as a varsity kicker.

As a result of his academic achievements and scholastic testing results, Terry was recruited by several Ivy League and Big 10 schools to play baseball and football. However, after receiving appointments to both the U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Air Force Academy, he attended U.S. Air Force Academy playing football and baseball during his freshman season. Terry transferred to University of Missouri and participated in football in 1978, 1979 and 1981 and baseball in 1979. Although injuries affected Terry's college careers in both sports, this provided an opportunity for him to explore his other sporting interest, which was competitive bowling. Terry bowled for Missouri's college club team for three years, coached the team during graduate school, and won several prestigious tournaments during the period between 1982 and 1987. After taking two years off from playing competitive baseball, Terry attended a free agent tryout camp for the Kansas City Royals in the summer of 1981. Terry was offered a free agent contract to finish the rookie league season in Florida, but he instead chose to finish his college eligibility in football. However, this performance did lead to Terry being invited to pitch batting practice for the Kansas City Royals major league club during the week between the end of the baseball players strike in 1981 and resumption of the season.

Terry earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 1982 and a Masters of Education in Human Performance in 1985. In 1999, Terry was accepted into a Ph.D. program in Rural Sociology, but did not complete this course of study.

Terry has been a volunteer associate scout for three organizations (St. Louis Cardinals, Seattle Mariners, KC Royals) working with full time scouts primarily in evaluation of pitching technique at free agent evaluations sessions. Terry coached high school baseball at Archbishop O'Hara in Kansas City between 1991 and 2003. During his tenure at O'Hara, numerous players moved onto successful college careers with two players signing professional contracts. Terry also coached high school football at Lee's Summit West first as a volunteer in 2005 and then as a paid assistant in 2006 and 2007 in charge of specialists (snappers, holders, punters and kickers). During his tenure at Lee's Summit West, he had all-conference, all-district and all-state kickers each season with a remarkable 95% accuracy of all kicks from scrimmage in 2007.

Terry has coached baseball and softball privately since 1991. Terry is known in the Kansas City region for his expertise in biomechanics of sports technique and applying the mental aspects into training programs. Terry currently organizes two high school summer and fall showcase baseball teams working with players to find appropriate fits for continuing their college careers. Terry has an extensive network of contacts in junior colleges and four year colleges throughout the region. In addition, Terry's 30 plus year career as a baseball and softball umpire at all levels has allowed him to develop an extensive network of contacts in the high school sports and competitive baseball and softball programs throughout the region. Terry brings a professional hands on approach to Midwest Sports Advisors.
