Coach Jay Fitzgreald should be very excited about the young group of players returning for the 2011 campaign and Alex Beals will play an important  role in the Bettendorf Bulldog's quest for a conference championship. As a pitcher, Alex will be counted on to contribute to Bett's succes. He is tall and his arm is very loose. His well-balanced approach and smooth delivery will make his 80-82 mph fastball seem more like upper 80's. Alex has excellent mechanics good arm action and hides the ball very well. He has a tenacious attitude that challenges any hitter. Beals has an excellent speed differential between his fastball and his change / curveball. Because he is a smart pitcher, he will often have oppposing hitters out on their front foot or off balance. Alex Beals is a very well rounded position player as well. He can play infield or outfield - generally he moves to second for coach Fitzgerald but may find himself in the outfield too - mainly because of his athletic ability. Alex is a very unselfish player and always puts "team" first. He very easily could be a duel position player in college. Hitting, once again - mechanically sound. Beals is a gap to gap type of hitter with good speed. He uses his hands well but, He thinks through his entire approach to his AB - as well as any HS player we have seen this year. His balance is excellent, which allows him to utilize the entire field for his AB's. Alex is a very good student and a high character young man - he will be a good fit for just about ANY college program.
