Evaluation Update 1/28/12:
Chase has grown about 4-inches over the last year. He is defineably taller and starting to fill out very well. He continues to work hard and presents the same fluid fielding motion that is needed for the middle infield positions, He is quick laterally and shows exceptionally good hands. His throws are strongers and his ball is showing nice "carry" across the infield. Some of the biggest improvement this year has been his bat speed. Chase still has the same smooth short stroke to the ball but much quicker. He hits from a well ballanced stance, stays back well and hands inside the ball. Over-all, he is bigger and stronger and has the frame to carry good additional weight. This should be a good Junior year for him. Chase definately remains a player to watch!
Initial evaluation: Chase Watt is an athlete, pure and simple. He scores above average in virtually every aspect of his game and is developing into a solid team leader. Having watched Chase play recently - it is very evident that he is one of the up and coming stars for Coach DeGraw at Rockhurst within the next couple of years. As a hitter, Chase has very few weaknesses in his swing. He is a high average, gap to gap hitter that will use the entire field of play because of very good plate discipline and the ability to stay inside the ball. His over-all mechanics are very good: He stays back and explodes very well to the ball. His bat travels a great path to the ball and his hands are very quick to adjust to marginal pitches. Most importantly, Chase is compact and short to the ball. He has learned to discipline himself as well as any HS player that I have seen in a long while. He is a smart hitter and is very unselfish at the plate. He is an exciting hitter and because of his ability at the plate I believe he will find his way into just about any lineup at whichever level he ends up playing. As an infielder, it is more of the same. His athletic ability allows him to get to balls others might not get to. He has smooth hands, a strong base and excellent feet. He gets to the "holes" quickly and sets and throws very well. His game (situation) recognition is exceptional. Chase has an above average and very accurate arm from any release position . He is a tough - tough kid with very high character! He is an excellent student and will be a tremendous addition to any college program!
