Colin Frederick is a tremendous baseball player that could have been a star at any of three sports: football, basketball or baseball - thankfully he chose baseball. There is no doubt that Colin will be a future standout player at Blue Valley Southwest as well as at the college level. He has the skill, the speed and the intellect to be one of the best around. Colin constantly applies pressure to the opposing team regardless if he is in the batters box or in the field. As an emerging outfielder, Colin reads and tracking ability are already at an above average high school level; very few balls find their way deep into the gaps because of his speed and most runners will not try to take the extra base because of Colin's arm strength. Colin has a strong arm from any outfield position and as a result, opponents trying to tag and move up are often gunned down. As a Hitter, professional evaluator Mike Macfarlane, (Former Big League Catcher with the Kansas City Royals) says: "Colin has all the tools to be an excellent hitter - he has a solid left-handed swing from a strong, stable base. His balance and swing-path are excellent and his mechanics are solid. Colin stays inside the ball very well and his approach to his at bats are well considered for a young player at the High School level. Colin has a chance to be one of the top hitters in the state of Kansas next spring." Colin will be a treasure to any college program. He is definately a hard worker with a great attitude.
As a pitcher, Colin also scores very high marks. He is not just an excellent athlete that pitches, Colin could be a dominant pitcher. Colin is smart, confident and keeps the ball down in the zone as well as any young pitcher we have seen in recent years. His mechanics are solid. His delivery is smoth and he hides the ball very well. He has an excellent speed differentiation between his Fastball and his off-speed pitches. Because of his very fluid motion, his mid-80's FB appears upper 80's fast - very impressive for a young player. He will have a great future in Baseball regardless of the position Colin choses for college
